The Story
The Story of Mills’ Iconic Eagle
In October of 2018, the Mills proudly installed the massive steel eagle at the corner of 2nd & Wyoming Blvd. Weighing 8,100 pounds with a wingspan of 48 feet, the eagle quickly became a landmark and symbol of community pride.
The story began earlier that spring, when local businessman Rick Bonander discovered the eagle for sale outside Kalispell, Montana. A long-time advocate for community art and beautification projects across the Casper area, Bonander brought the idea to the Mills City Council. Because the project aligned with the both the city’s and then Mayor Coleman’s vision of revitalizing and beautifying public spaces, the Council agreed to make it the first monument of its kind in Mills.
Mr. Bonander was able to secure the eagle for $75,000 and rallied community support by seeking donations from local businesses and residents to help fund the project. Thanks to all of our sponsors and donors who made this project possible, the eagle found its permanent home in Mills, where it continues to inspire pride and serve as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through vision and community spirit.
